Jeremy & Coreen's Story

At the beginning of 2020 we got word that we had our Adoption Decree! After a long and arduous 6 year process, we were finally in the home stretch to bring our daughter home from Haiti. Come February, Covid started complicating things. The paperwork slowed to a halt and we were not sure what would happen as Haiti started to become more and more unstable. Months went on and little bits of progress came here and there, but then all international flights from Canada to Haiti were cancelled with no ideas of when they would open again. Our family got in contact with 2 other families from BC who had daughters they were trying to bring home as well and we all worked together to advocate for our paperwork to be completed as well as tried to find a solution to the flight issue. It became apparent that our only option would be to hire a private flight and have the three girls escorted out of the country. As all this was going on, we got word from our doctor that our son’s cancer had relapsed and we needed to get to Children’s hospital immediately for treatment. All we could do in that time was pray and ask God for guidance and help. How could this all be happening at once? How could it be His will to bring a beautiful girl into a family that is facing the possible loss of their son? As we gave it all to God, He came through and gave us the strength and guidance we called out for. ABBA contacted us right in the middle of it and informed us we have been approved for a grant that would enable us to have enough funds to bring our daughter home. She has been home 7 months now and we are still in Vancouver getting treatment for our son, but the time we have been able to spend as a family unit has been absolutely invaluable. God knows. He cares. He loves and gives just what we need when we give our burdens to Him. Thank you so very much ABBA for helping to make this all happen, and thank you for doing such great work to help adoptive families. God bless!!
